JOSEPH DANIEL SOBOL presents: IN THE DEEP HEART'S CORE: A MYSTIC CABARET

Conceived, Composed, and Performed by JOSEPH DANIEL SOBOL, with singer-violinist Isabella Simon, singer/cellist Elisa Winter, and pianist Beth Falcone.

Celebrate the marriage of great poetry, great music, and theatre. . . In the Deep Heart's Core.  Described by Hedy Weiss of the Chicago Sun-Times as ". . . A rapturous weave of the irresistible sounds of Irish music and the steely but lyrical magic that animates the words of one of Ireland's most celebrated poets, W. B. Yeats," this cycle of songs and spoken pieces from the verses and essays of Ireland's master poet is a stunning evening of musical theatre, poetry, song, and storytelling.  The Chicago Tribune called it "A joy--poetry to the ears, alternately tender and rousing."  The Irish-American News said that In the Deep Heart's Core was "simply not to be missed."

In the Deep Heart's Core ran for eight months at Chicago's Bailiwick Repertory Theatre to unanimous critical acclaim, receiving a 1995 Joseph Jefferson Award for Outstanding Original Score. The show has been featured at the Smithsonian Institution in Washington D. C., a four-week run at Virginia's nationally-known Barter Theatre, a four-week run at Philadelphia's Movement Theatre International, and a national tour.

“In the Deep Heart’s Core” is at once a poet’s autobiography and a deeply moving journey through the romantic imagination and the national soul of Ireland. It follows the life of the Celtic visionary poet and activist William Butler Yeats, moving through dreams and heartbreaks toward ultimate spiritual triumph.  Featuring stunning original musical setting of many of the best-loved lyrics in the English language—and the brilliant singing, playing, and storytelling of composer Joseph Sobol, original pianist Beth Falcone, and a new band of extravagantly talented young singers and string players, Elisa Winter and Isabella Simon—“In the Deep Heart’s Core” is back-- a musical event of transcendent power.
