Theater LARP (Double Feature!)

Join LARP (Live Action Role Playing) writer and game runner Olivia Montoya for an evening double feature of short theater LARPs. Game veterans and newbies alike are invited to play — no experience necessary. This event is aimed at adults due to some sensitive content, but parents or guardians may bring teens age 16+.

For more information about theater LARP and the games that will be played, please see our game description.

This is a free event, but pre-registration is required. There is space for 12 total players, with a minimum of 5. Participation is first-come first-served. Game #1 requires players to fill out a simple survey that will be emailed after registration. This is to help the facilitator “cast” you in your role for the game. Visit this link to register.

The Revolutionary Love Project
Sep

The Revolutionary Love Project

In this interactive workshop and guided art practice, participants are encouraged to reflect on the power of love in their lives, recognize moments of kindness or support that had a significant impact, and share these insights to build empathy and compassion.

Participants will begin by reflecting on the guiding question, “When did an act of love change everything?” Through thoughtful introspection and journaling, participants will explore moments when they felt truly seen, supported, or understood by another.

Participants will then design a vision board that visually represents their response to the guiding question. By piecing together materials such as magazines, newspapers, printed images, colored paper, and other craft supplies, participants will visually transform the small and large acts of love they have experienced into a powerful call for solidarity, unity, compassion, and community.

There will be time at the end of the workshop for participants to come back together and, if they choose, share what they have created and speak about their reflections.

No experience is necessary. All adult and young adult participants are welcome. This is a free workshop co-sponsored by The Center on Main and Project SAGE.

To register for this event, please visit this link. Pre-registration is appreciated but walk-ins are welcome.

You Are Here: The Life Design Starting Point for Navigating Transitions

There's a technical term for how transitions can sometimes make us feel. That word is "yucky." But what if we could reframe how we approach transitions, whether ones we initiate or that life forces upon us? Transitions can be exciting and lead to personal growth, ultimately resulting in lives of greater coherence and alignment, once we navigate the challenging aspects.

Life design can help us move forward into that new space. The first step is to gain an understanding of where we stand in key areas of our lives, including our values and life purposes.

During this workshop, we'll engage in activities that help us discover our starting point, allowing us to plot a way forward to a new destination. There will be time for collaboration, conversation, brainstorming, and fun! We will be each other's life design team and cheerleaders all in one! When we're finished, you'll have:

  • Clarified where your life is right now, understood with compassion and non-judgment

  • Identified or reminded yourself of the values and purposes you believe are essential in your life

  • Identified baby steps to move you forward in key areas of your life

This is a free workshop open to anyone in transition in any part of their life. Visit this link to register.

1781

1781

Please join us for a staged reading of 1781 in celebration of Juneteenth.

Written by local playwrights Lonnie Carter and Linda Rossi, 1781 is the story of MumBet, the first enslaved person to win her freedom in a Court of Law.

After securing her freedom, she took the name Elizabeth Freeman and went to work for wages, as a free woman, in the household of Theodore Sedgwick, the lawyer who had represented her at Court. She raised the six Sedgwick children including Catharine, who became a best selling novelist.

At the time of MumBet’s trial,  there were more than 5000 enslaved persons in Massachusetts. In a matter of months there were none.  Eighty some years before the Emancipation Proclamation. We celebrate her freedom on this JUNETEENTH. And the freedom of all those who went after, and still are striving for that freedom today.

Mumbet will be played by Wanda Houston. Entrance is free.

Roy Book Binder Concert

Roy Book Binder Concert

Please join us for a special performance by singer-songwriter-bluesman Roy Book Binder! Admission is $25. Concert starts at 7:30pm, doors open at 7pm. Tickets can be purchased at the door (no presale).

About Roy:

Roy has the goods: the original, the bare-knuckle, the low-down . . . blues. Who can say they were friends with the Rev. Gary Davis, Pink Anderson and Robert Lockwood? And toured with Arthur Big Boy Crudup, Hot Tuna, JJ Cale & Bonnie Raitt ?  Roy can. He has the stories, the licks, and the mystery of timeless music in his fingers. He’s been featured on a PBS special and interviewed by Terry Gross on “Fresh Air.”  He’s also a regular at Fur Peace Ranch, where he teaches along with Jorma Kaukonen. When he brings his  'Tour Bus'  to town, a one-man blues-fest ensues. He plays and he entertains, feeding us music and stories, and the evening is a celebration for us all. We’re privileged to have Roy here to preserve–and extend—the tradition of great American blues music. (JAMES HIPP)

Big Talk

Venture out of the default small-talk zone with strangers and friends, guided by a facilitator. Equally satisfying for extroverts and introverts, this program provides the opportunity for meaningful connections in our increasingly disconnected world. BYOB. Snacks and non-alcoholic drinks provided! Ages 18+. Register here so we know to expect you! Free with suggested donation of $5.

This program is made possible by the generous support of the Falls Village Community Development Corporation.

Take it from a few of our Big Talk participants:

“It’s amazing how open people can be when they feel psychologically safe! You managed to attract the ‘right’ people. The questions were the perfect mix - enough to go deep but also with some that left room for people to be more guarded in their responses.”

“Very interesting, great meeting new people, the time went surprisingly fast.”

“I was pleasantly surprised to make deeper connections in conversation with both people I have known casually and have never met. I really enjoyed myself.”
