Contra Dance Lessons

If you've ever been curious about contra dancing (or if you just like having a good time with neighbors), we have the perfect series for you! Join instructor Tom Scott and the locally famous Falls Village Fiddler (Rachel Gall) for a three-part beginner's contra dance school.

At its core, contra dancing is a social interaction. It's about meeting people and making new friends, set to live music. In this series you will learn the basic structure of the contra set, the roles of the dance partners, proper etiquette, and the different figures that are used to move through the set. In this 3-part series, you will be guided from novice to proficient in dancing the most common contra figures. This type of dance is fun and easy to learn. Come solo or bring a friend! Walk away with the confidence to attend any of the local contra dances.

Classes are $15-20 sliding scale. Participants are encouraged to attend all three sessions since the skills will build, but no one will be turned away. If you can't make all three, come for the others anyway.

Classes are held on the second Saturday of the month, from 6pm-8pm.

  • September 12th

  • October 10th

  • November 14th

Registration is requested (but walk-ins are welcome!). Please register here.

About the Musician & Caller

Rachel Gall, Rachel picked up her first violin at age 3. At 22 she wanted a fun way to make music with people. She discovered the New England Contra Dance Community and has enjoyed many an evening fiddling, dancing and calling ever since.

About the Instructor

Tom Scott, Tom has been dancing since December of 2019. This will be his first formal class instructing the Contra Dance. He has helped teach many beginners at the local dances that take place in the area and is excited to help you learn just how much fun Contra Dancing is.
