Craft & Art Supply Swap

The Center on Main and Common Place Craft Workshop (Millerton, NY) are teaming up on a Craft & Art Supply Swap on September 26th!

What is an art supply swap?

Have you ever gotten really excited about a new craft, purchased all the supplies, and then realized you didn’t like it as much as you thought you did? Or maybe you did enjoy painting, but now you’re really loving knitting and you haven’t touched your paintbrushes in months. Or maybe you’ve been eying blockprinting but you can’t justify the cost of tools and materials right now. If any of this rings true — the art supply swap is for you!

Folks can drop off their new or gently used art supplies at one of our collection locations on 9/18 - 9/24 and then come to the swap to pick out new-to-you supplies. 1-2pm is reserved for people who donated supplies to the swap. At 2pm, the swap is open to everyone — no donation necessary.

The art supply swap is rooted in community joy, reciprocity, and waste reduction. There is no need-based requirement for participation. All we ask is that you take only what you will genuinely use and enjoy. Help connect our community of artists, crafters and makers with unused art supplies!

Donate to the Swap

Art supply donations can be dropped off at our two collection spots. For guidelines and suggested examples, please see our swap donation guidelines.

Volunteer at the Swap
We’re looking for a few friendly, helpful hands to organize/set up on September 25th and manage the swap on September 26th. If that’s you, please sign up here. Thank you!

Swap Rules

  • Swap items are free.

  • Open to everyone. You do not have to bring supplies to participate, but those who do bring supplies will get access to the swap for the first hour.

  • No stashing/reselling. Please help us limit waste and reduce barriers to making art by only taking supplies that you yourself (or the organization you represent) will genuinely use.

  • Children under 12 must be accompanied by an adult at all times during the swap. There may be fragile, sharp and toxic materials at reachable height. Tweens 12+ are welcome to shop by themselves.

  • Items not taken by swap participants will be used at The Center on Main (501c3) for future programming, shared with other local programs, or used to seed a future swap.
